WARDOGS ships with two playstyle settings you'll see as Discord/server tags: Standard and Hardcore. They're the same core game — same map, same economy, same Control Zone loop — with Hardcore turning up the friction.
Standard
The default experience. Full HUD, killcam available, full server kill feed, vehicles drivable from whatever view (first- or third-person) you prefer. Recommended for anyone still learning maps, ballistics, or a new role.
Hardcore
Hardcore adds real friction on top of the same match:
| Change | Effect |
|---|---|
| No killcam | You don't get a free replay of how you died |
| Fewer HUD elements | Less on-screen hand-holding overall |
| Kill feed locked to squad level | You only see your own squad's kills, not the whole server's |
| Vehicles: first-person only | No third-person vehicle view — driving and gunning is done from inside the cabin/cockpit |
The combined effect: less information, more immersion, and vehicle combat that demands you actually watch your mirrors and gauges instead of orbiting the camera around your tank.
Which should you pick?
- New to WARDOGS? Start in Standard. Learn the Control Zone loop, the economy, and your role's basics before adding Hardcore's information restrictions on top.
- Comfortable with the core loop, want more tension? Hardcore rewards map knowledge, sound, and squad discipline over raw reflexes and killcam-fed information.
- Playing on a [KNL] server? Check the server's tag/rules — communities can and do run dedicated Hardcore-only or Standard-only servers. The Kennel tags members by playstyle preference in Discord (
Standard/Hardcoreroles) specifically so squads can find like-minded servers together.
