WARDOGS progression runs on three connected layers: role XP tracks, an overall Wardog Level, and cash. Understanding how they connect explains why "I have the level" doesn't always mean "I can use it yet."
The six XP tracks
Every role has its own XP track, capping at level 100 each:
| Track | Grows from |
|---|---|
| Assault | Assault rifles and many sidearms |
| Medic | SMGs and medical tools |
| Recon | Marksman/sniper rifles and recon tools |
| Support | LMGs, shotguns, launchers, build/repair tools |
| Driver | Ground vehicle use |
| Pilot | Helicopter use |
You level up whichever track matches what you're actually using — there's no separate "pick a class" menu. Your loadout is your role for that life.
Wardog Level
All six role tracks feed into one combined account stat: your Wardog Level, capping at 600 (6 tracks × 100). This is your overall account standing, and it's also what The Kennel's OCR-based proficiency system reads to assign your Discord rank — see the pinned info in #proficiency-check.
How unlocks actually work (three layers)
This trips people up, so read it twice:
- Playing earns role XP and cash.
- **Level grants *purchase rights*** — e.g. reaching Assault Lvl 10 lets you buy the Galil.
- Cash actually unlocks the item for use — you still have to pay for it.
Having the level without the cash means it's still locked. Having the cash without the level means it's still locked too. You need both. See the Weapons and Vehicles tables for exact level + price gates per item.
Resets
At major update cycles, level progression and cash reset. Any cash you're holding at that point automatically converts to gold bars (spendable on endgame cosmetics via the Gold Exchange), so there's no reason to panic-spend right before a reset — but there's also no reason to hoard cash indefinitely, since it becomes a different currency once the reset happens. Plan bigger purchases (a role-defining vehicle, a top-tier weapon) around this cycle rather than saving forever.
The long-term metagame
Beyond the match loop, Bulkhead is building out an account-level metagame through Early Access:
- Player Skills — points earned from playing and ranking up, invested into your preferred roles for long-term bonuses.
- Challenges — short-term goals that reward playing outside your comfort zone, paying resources spendable on the Black Market.
- Black Market & Vault — an optional commerce and storage system, still being expanded during Early Access.
None of these are finished systems yet at Early Access launch — treat this section as "what's coming," not "what's live on day one."
