How To: Chase the Hot Zone (Without Losing the Main Zone)

Double value, double risk — how to actually profit from the Hot Zone.

Why this matters

The Hot Zone is a smaller, roaming area inside the Control Zone worth double cash, and — the part that actually decides matches — a player standing in it counts as two toward the headcount that wins the Control Zone. Three of your squad inside it count for six. Everyone can see where it is, which means it's also where the fighting concentrates.

It doesn't only roam — it can be pulled. Capturing the drilling towers inside the Control Zone assembles a code, and a completed code drags the Hot Zone to a tower of your choosing for a period. If the Hot Zone keeps landing on one faction's fortified ground, that isn't luck. See How To: Use Drilling Towers — this is the highest-leverage play in the mode and most players never learn it exists.

Steps

  1. Confirm your squad can spare the numbers. Sending your entire squad to the Hot Zone and leaving the rest of the Control Zone empty can lose you more points than the Hot Zone gains you. A partial commitment (2–3 of 6) is often safer than an all-in push.
  2. Let Recon confirm what's already there before committing. Since it's visible to every faction, the Hot Zone is frequently already contested by one or two other teams by the time you arrive — check before you commit resources.
  3. Move as a group, not a straggling line. Because the Hot Zone draws attention from multiple factions at once, arriving spread out gets you picked off individually before you can establish a position.
  4. Use the value while you have it, then reassess. The Hot Zone moves during the match — don't treat your current position as permanent. If it's about to roam away from you, be ready to disengage rather than overextending to hold ground that's about to stop paying double.
  5. Stop chasing and start pulling. Chasing is the beginner's version of this. Once your squad can spare one player on tower duty, you can bring the Hot Zone to ground you've already fortified instead of running to wherever it went. See Drilling Towers.
  6. Bank the extra income toward a real upgrade. The entire point of chasing Hot Zone value is the cash/points payoff — make sure that payoff actually turns into a loadout or vehicle upgrade rather than getting spent piecemeal.

Common mistakes

  • Sending the whole squad and abandoning the main Control Zone.
  • Rushing in without a Recon check on who's already there.
  • Overstaying after the Hot Zone has visibly moved elsewhere.
  • Treating Hot Zone kills as the only value — remember standing in it also pays passively, same as the regular zone, just doubled.
