How To: Choose What to Unlock First

Unlocks cost more than the gear behind them, and they're level-gated. Spreading yourself thin makes everything slower.

Why this is the most important decision you'll make

Almost every weapon and upgrade sits behind a one-time unlock far larger than the item's price, gated by a level — see the unlock wall. An AMR 50 is $8,800 to buy and $200,000 to unlock at Recon 35.

That means your arsenal isn't limited by cash. It's limited by which track you levelled. And that makes how you spread your play the highest-leverage choice available to you.

Unlock costs moved in the 14 Aug patch. The notes say "vehicle / weapon unlock costs raised across every class" and "level-up costs increased across all levels past level 15". The figures below come from community item pages and we can't tell which side of that patch they sit on, so treat them as the right order of magnitude and ordering, not exact. The strategy doesn't change either way.

Pick one lane

Spreading XP evenly across tracks slows every unlock down. Picking one lane first is faster to a meaningful upgrade.

Six tracks, each to level 100 (Progression). Splitting your time three ways doesn't get you three modest upgrades — it gets you three tracks too low to unlock anything, while a focused player has a real weapon.

There is one hard version of this worth knowing: XP does not cross over between vehicle tracks. Time spent driving trucks moves Driver, and does nothing at all for Pilot. If you want to fly, you have to fly.

Pick the lane you enjoy, not the one with the best endgame gun. You are committing dozens of hours, and the fastest track is the one you'll actually play.

What each lane opens early

Early unlocks that arrive soon enough to feel worth chasing:

TrackEarly payoff
Assault / InfantryAK74 at Lvl 3 (~$10,000), Galil at Lvl 10 (~$35,000)
MedicPP-19 Vityaz at Lvl 4 (~$25,000), Field Resuscitator
ReconSKS at Lvl 5 (~$25,000), SVD at Lvl 12 (~$50,000)
SupportRPG-7 at Lvl 5 (~$30,000), M500 at Lvl 10 (~$50,000)
Driver / PilotTransport unlocks — the cheapest route into their earning power
Career / WardogGGX 17 sidearm at Lvl 1 (~$5,000)

Note how early the useful ones land. AK74 at Infantry 3 for $10,000 is the single best early target in the game: a real automatic rifle, a low level gate, and an unlock an order of magnitude cheaper than the $100,000+ tier above it.

Level faster by playing the objective

The same behaviour that wins matches levels you fastest:

  • Hot Zone actions pay double — cash and XP. Doing your normal job inside the Hot Zone is the single biggest multiplier available. See Make Money.
  • Objective habits beat deathmatch. Holding zones, reviving, transporting and supplying level you faster over a session than hunting kills in open ground.
  • Play your lane's actions deliberately. Each track levels from its own activity — rifle kills feed Assault, revives and SMG work feed Medic, ground vehicles feed Driver. Doing a bit of everything feeds nothing much.

A first-hundred-hours order

  1. Career Lvl 1 · $5,000 — the GGX 17. A permanent sidearm for a one-time cost. Not on your first spawn (see Sidearms), but early.
  2. Your lane's first weapon. AK74 at Infantry 3, SKS at Recon 5, PP-19 at Medic 4, RPG-7 at Support 5 — all cheap, all soon.
  3. Bag capacity. The Field Backpack (Career 12 · $20,000) is a real quality-of-life jump from the Scout's 8 slots.
  4. Your lane's mid-tier weapon — Galil, SVD, M500. Around $35,000–$50,000, and a genuine step up.
  5. Only then the $100,000+ tier. By this point you'll know whether you want it.

Do not start saving for a $200,000 unlock early. You cannot reach the level for it yet, and the cash is worth more spent on kit that keeps you alive while you level.

Common mistakes

  • Playing all six tracks. The most common way to feel stuck: everything moves, nothing unlocks.
  • Grinding cash for a top-tier weapon you can't level to. Cash without the level buys nothing.
  • Driving to level Pilot. It does nothing. Vehicle tracks are separate.
  • Chasing kills in open ground when Hot Zone objective work pays double in both currencies.
  • Ignoring the cheap early unlocks. The AK74 at $10,000 improves your game more than saving toward a $200,000 rifle you'll reach in a month.
