Why this matters
A Forward Operating Base (FOB) is a player-built logistics position that can host mortars, anti-air, sniper towers, and a spawn vehicle. A well-placed FOB extends your squad's reach into a fight; a badly placed one is a cash sink the enemy destroys in minutes.
Steps
1. Buy the FOB deployment item
The Forward Operating Base item costs $2,500 and takes up 2×3 inventory space. Deploy it from your quick-slot onto accessible terrain — this creates the construction influence radius everything else attaches to.
2. Pick your placement carefully
Good FOB terrain has:
- A practical road or landing approach so supply vehicles and aircraft can actually reach it
- Enough flat space for delivery and maneuver
- Cover from direct fire so it isn't trivially shelled or shot up on sight
Avoid:
- Skylines (silhouettes your FOB for everyone)
- Sealing off vehicle entrances you'll need later
- Placing so far forward it's overrun before it's useful, or so far back it can't influence the active zone
3. Build the smallest useful loop first
Start with the minimum logistics loop — supply access and maybe a single defensive structure — before adding expensive defenses. Overbuilding a FOB that gets found and destroyed before it matters wastes cash and materials.
4. Stock the four resource types
FOB construction and operation consumes:
- Build Supplies ($10) — construction material
- Fuel Supplies ($10) — vehicle refueling at the FOB
- Ammo Supplies ($10) — weapon reloads at the FOB
- Mechanical Supplies ($10) — vehicle repair at the FOB
Bring stacks of these on every supply run — at $10 each, this is nearly free relative to the value it adds.
5. Add structures as the situation demands
- Mortar — indirect fire support (see Running a Mortar)
- Anti-air — deploy when aircraft threaten the position (see Setting Up Air Defense)
- Trenches & walls — shape enemy approach lanes, not just decoration
- Spawn vehicle — deployed separately; doesn't provide respawn automatically, so plan for it deliberately
Construction uses small, medium, and large hammers depending on structure tier.
6. Defend it in layers
Effective FOB defense combines external observation (Recon), infantry holding positions, anti-vehicle tools, and a reserve force — not just a wall around the perimeter.
Attacking an enemy FOB
Don't charge the center. Find the logistics route first — interdict the supply vehicles keeping it running, identify its spawn assets and key weapons, then eliminate critical structures systematically rather than assaulting the perimeter head-on.
Common mistakes
- Placing a FOB on a skyline or in the open, in view from the main approach.
- Overbuilding defenses before establishing a working supply loop.
- Never carrying the $10 resource supplies, leaving a FOB starved even when friendlies are nearby.
- Attacking an enemy FOB head-on instead of cutting its supply route first.
Note: Closed Beta guides deliberately avoid publishing exact permanent structure prices, since beta numbers can change before Early Access — treat structure costs as approximate until EA launch.
