How To: Counter Enemy Armor and Aircraft

Countering armor and aircraft — you don't need a tank to beat a tank.

Why this matters

Not every squad can afford to field its own tank or attack helicopter. Fortunately, WARDOGS gives infantry real tools to answer armor and air without matching vehicle-for-vehicle.

Countering ground armor

  1. Use launchers deliberately. The RPG-7 ($2,000), MAAWS ($2,600, reusable), and MGL-40 ($6,000, 6-shot) are all viable anti-vehicle options for Support players — see the Support role guide.
  2. Deploy AT Mines ($650) on likely approach routes rather than relying purely on reactive fire.
  3. Get Recon to call the vehicle's route and armor facing early, so your launcher shot lands somewhere effective rather than blind.
  4. Flank rather than face heavy armor frontally — most vehicles are more vulnerable from the side or rear.
  5. Coordinate multiple anti-armor threats at once if possible; a tank that has to split attention between two angles is far easier to bring down than one facing a single threat.

Countering aircraft

  1. Build AA at your FOB — the Talon launcher and CIWS are the confirmed anti-air structures (see Setting Up Air Defense).
  2. Get Recon calling aircraft the moment they're spotted, ideally before they're already engaging.
  3. Use cover and structures to break line of sight from attack helicopters rather than standing in the open when one is active.
  4. Don't cluster in the open when enemy air is confirmed active — a grouped squad is a much more attractive gun run target than scattered infantry.

Common mistakes

  • Trying to fight a tank head-on with small arms instead of using a launcher or mine.
  • Ignoring Recon's armor/air callouts and getting caught in the open.
  • Building AA only after a FOB has already taken damage from air attack.
  • Clustering your squad in open ground when enemy aircraft is confirmed nearby.
